Nutrition for women - what to consider

April 26, 2018

‘ANS - Supporting women’s health by utilising a unique blend of protein, vitamins and minerals. Our Women’s formula is designed to be consumed with a nutritious diet, providing a boost to meet nutrient requirements.’

There are several reasons why women’s nutritional needs vary greatly to those of a man including menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause. With the popularity of crash dieting in Australia, nutritional deficiencies are common, especially among young women. Good nutrition means eating a wide variety of foods every day, which isn’t possible on a restrictive diet.

Our bodies require many different vitamins and minerals that are crucial for both development and disease prevention. Some micronutrients aren’t provided in the body, so you must consume them from you diet. For example:

Iodine:

Iodine deficiency is one nutrient women often lack and need assistance building up a storage. Without enough Iodine, our bodies don’t make enough thyroid hormones to help control our metabolism, body temperature and more.

Iron:

Women are especially vulnerable to iron deficiency because we menstruate and lose blood at least once a month. Our bodies need to make up for that loss with more iron, which is why it is so important we get enough iron in our daily diets.

Calcium and Vitamin D:

As most people would know by now, Calcium and Vitamin D work hand in hand promoting bone and dental health as well as blood clotting and heart health. However, the concern here is, many Australian’s are showing levels of deficiency between certain age groups. It is recommended women should be consuming between 1000mg – 1300mg of Calcium per day. If you find yourself more often inside than out, you may want to consider taking additional Vitamin D through supplementation.

ANS Women’s also provides appropriate supplementation; proving your training to be more effective and recovery time reduced. Depending on your goals and frequency of training you may also require a higher level of nutrients.
